Sketch in the Frankfurt airport
Finally, reunited with Orion!
Arrival at the airbnb in Nice that Orion had booked
Right now we are in a cozy little Airbnb in Nice, close to the main square of town, and the ocean! We slept well, long and hard last night, after our long plane flight.
Backing up to the day of travel with Phoenix and Paige to get to Nice: We had a very long day of waiting around in airports, especially in Frankfurt, where we were relegated to chilling out in a fairly bleak section of the airport.
Temporary Christmas headquarters!
After sandwiches and coffee, I settled into doing another sketch of a plane and a control tower (that makes two drawings in one day of the same subject).
Many hours later, we were circling over a portion of the Mediterranean and landing in Nice with wind buffeting the plane for extra excitement.
We were met in the lobby by Orion, who was excitedly waiting for us, looking smart in a pressed white shirt and prepared with three pre-bought bus cards. All we had left to do was to make the short bus ride from the Nice airport to get to our AirBnB.
It is great to see Orion again, in France this time! We are ready for adventures. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone but me is sick!
Once we got to our Airbnb, we needed to make a quick detour to the youth hostel where Orion has been staying, to get his bags. Then we all went out for an exploratory walk-about to see the evening holiday scene in Nice, through the Place Masséna, the main public square that was amply decorated and with lit up trees, lots of lights and excited tourists, all with a festive feeling for Christmas, with the bonus that we could walk right down to the waterfront of the Mediterranean.
We ended up having dinner at a restaurant only a stone's throw from our Airbnb. Paige and I both had a plate of Roquefort gnocchi. Phoenix had a huge pizza, and Orion had lasagna. So much cheese!
Our Airbnb is a compact, tidy little place with a separate room for me and Page. I found the bed to be comfortable and slept well, as previously mentioned. Paige has been miserable, though, which is such a bummer. Paige and I are in one room and the kids are on a fold-up couch in the small living room.
Orion bought some lights to make a Christmas tree for us! His first idea was to use a piece of driftwood he hauled all the way from Antibes as a stand-in for a tree. But he decided to drape the lights over a large spider plant instead, relegating the driftwood on the balcony and importing some Christmas cheer into our temporary apartment.
Enjoying the first of many meals with cheese
