welcome to the haikutimes

Issue #40, War Protest, Denver Civic Center, October 26, 2002. Haiku and photographs by Jonathan.

four thousand people
gather in downtown denver:
late autumn dissent

far more people at the game
than at the rally

at least the buffs won-
one reason not to protest
imminent war plans

senator wellstone
died while pursuing his truth
we gather to mourn

ordinary folks
seeking a way to address
their unheard voices

what we have to say
senators don't seem to hear
we gather instead

homeless man wakes up
to find himself surrounded
by war protesters

raised in unison
placards quiver in the sun
yet the crowd is small

the speaker shouts out-
'regime change begins at home'
...but i live alone!

bored by the rally
i walk to the museum
and think about art
