welcome to the haikutimes

Issue #31, Santa Fe/Summer Solstice weekend June 20 -23, 2002. Haiku and photographs by Jonathan.

driving to boulder
grey smoke blows on hot, dry winds
eyes redden and sting

traffic frustration
overwhelmes me one moment
my knuckles turn white

like a blood vessel
dragging in an artery
my car in traffic

colorado fires
making the skyline hazy
air unbreathable

hazy grey-white smoke
fanning smoke from distant fires,
acrid smell of ash

ghostly silhouettes
of mountains obscured by smoke,
landscape under seige

while i am eating
man assumes that i don't know
he draws my portrait

not wanting to be
an unsuspecting model
i exit his sktech

just six months ago
we spent the winter solstice
at 10,000 feet

from near and far
come the blessings and the friends,
the young and the old

holding back my tears
until the love is present
for all to witness

the oscilloscope
enabling us to see
what we are hearing

llama comes over
eyes me inquisitively
quickly walks away

summer solstice rain
in the middle of the drought
auspicious wedding

creating a breeze
of music as fresh as wind
marimba notes soar

santa fe monsoon
disrupts marimba music
only for an hour

for a brief moment
raven follows the same path
as we in our car

lake shadows still long
even at 6:22 p.m.
happy that it's june
